In this workshop, we’re turning that idea on its head and using coils to build \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003earound a mould\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, creating bowls and baskets with a much more sculptural feel.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou’ll learn two different projects. The first is a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eskeleton-style bowl\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, where the coils become the structure of the piece, creating an open design that you can see straight through.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe second is a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003etraditional coiled pattern bowl\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, where the coils are shaped into spirals and layered around the inside of a mould to create beautiful texture across the outside of the finished piece.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe’ll build on the fundamentals of rolling and working with coils, while exploring how changing the direction, placement and shape of your coils can create completely different results.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis is an \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eintermediate build\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, so you should already be comfortable rolling a good, consistent coil. If you’re still finding your feet with clay, we recommend spending some time in our hand-building classes practising standard coiling first.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTake your time, expect a few things to go wrong and remember that the failures are often where the learning happens.
