In this workshop, we’re getting playful with clay and learning how to create your own hand-built gnome from start to finish.
You’ll learn how much clay to use — around 1–2kg is ideal — along with the basic tools you'll need, before breaking the build down into simple stages.
We’ll start by shaping the base of the gnome, making sure it’s stable and the right size before moving on to the hat. You’ll learn how to roll out a clay cone, get the thickness right and mould it into shape.
From there, we’ll look at how to score and slip your pieces together properly, helping you create a strong connection between the base and hat. You’ll also learn how to add simple facial features such as a nose and beard, while exploring ways to give your gnome its own personality.
This workshop is designed to be relaxed, fun and approachable. You don’t need to have lots of clay experience to get started, and there’s plenty of room to experiment and make your gnome completely your own.
This workshop is perfect for beginners, including anyone who is completely new to working with clay and wants to create something fun without feeling intimidated by the process.
