Firing Guidelines & Policies
To ensure a smooth firing process and protect our equipment and your work, please carefully follow the requirements below. Work that does not meet these standards WILL be rejected.
Before You Drop Off:
MAKERS MARK: All work must be clearly stamped with your maker's mark. Unmarked items will not be accepted.
DRY WORK ONLY: All pieces must be bone dry. Wet greenware will not be accepted.
NO ONCE FIRING: We do not offer once firing. Greenware must be glaze-free. Underglaze on greenware is fine
GLAZE GUIDELINES:
- The base and bottom 2mm of all pieces must be free of glaze (underglaze is fine)
- If using Amaco, Mayco, Jungle Gems, runny or homemade glazes (and tests), you must provide kILN COOKIES for each piece
- You are responsible for any kiln or shelf damage caused by glaze runnage
HOLLOWED FORMS ONLY: Pieces must be hollowed out. we reserve the right to reject any work we believe may not survive the firing or could risk damage to other pieces/kiln
FIRING TEMPERATURES and PRICING:
- Bisque Firing: 1000-1020*C
- Glaze Firing: 1220*C MIDFIRE ONLY
Kiln Damage & Responsibility:
YOU ARE FULLY RESPONSIBLE for any damage your work causes to our kilns, shelves or others artists' pieces.
SHELF DAMAGE FEE:
Shelf requiring grinding: Up to $100 charge
Shelf beyond repair: $300 replacement fee
Loss, Damage & Liability:
The Pottery Studio is not responsible for lost, damaged or unsalvageable work due to firing.
- If damage occurs due to a kiln malfunction or staff handling error, you won't be charged for that firing - but we do not cover replacement costs of the piece.
Firing Costs & Wait Times
BISQUE FIRING: $10 PER KG
MIDFIRE GLAZE FIRING: $12 PER KG
FINAL COST is calculated AFTER firing, based on the actual weight of your pieces, including any additional fees for damage or cleaning if applicable.
This is NOT a priority service: Firing turnaround depends on our internal schedule, and can range from 2 to 8 weeks.
