Handbuilding Course 2: Intermediate

Our 6-week courses run over 6 consecutive weeks, on the same day and time each week. This schedule is fixed - the course cannot be completed over a shorter or longer period.

Take your handbuilding skills to the next level and bring your ideas to life in clay. Designed for makers who have completed a beginner handbuilding course (or have equivalent experience), this six-week intermediate course focuses on developing sculptural forms from initial concept through to final details.

With guidance from our friendly instructors, you'll explore the creative process behind designing, planning, building, refining and finishing your own sculptural piece.

You'll explore:

• Developing ideas and planning your sculptural form
• Creating maquettes to test and refine your designs
• Building larger and more complex forms
• Construction techniques for sculptural ceramics
• Refining and strengthening your form as you build
• Finishing techniques and adding final details

What's included:

• 6 hands-on sessions (2.5 hours each)
• All clay and build materials required for the course
• Expert guidance and hands-on support
• Dedicated time to develop and complete your own sculptural form

This course is about process, not product - developing your ideas and your technique with the space and materials to see a real sculptural piece through from concept to completion. Bisque firing is included for your final project piece (single piece). If you'd like to keep any extra experiments or pieces, additional bisque firing is available at our discounted member rate of $8.90/kg bisque, compared with the public rate of $11/kg.
