Altered Forms on the Wheel

Altered forms are all about loosening up and letting the clay move beyond perfect symmetry.
In this playful one-day masterclass, you’ll explore ways to transform wheel-thrown forms through cutting, stretching, paddling, and reshaping, creating dynamic and expressive pieces.

This workshop combines throwing and altering while the clay is still soft. You’ll begin by throwing simple forms, then experiment with a range of alteration techniques to change their shape, profile, and movement.
This masterclass is designed for potters with prior wheel experience who want to explore form in a more intuitive and creative way.
Please note this is not beginner friendly.

- How to throw forms specifically for altering
- Cutting, paddling, and stretching techniques
- Altering rims and profiles
- Combining thrown forms with simple handbuilding elements
- Letting go of symmetry and embracing movement

- Small group learning (max 8 participants)
- All clay, tools, and bisque firing included

Pieces to Keep:
- Participants will throw and alter multiple forms and select up to three finished pieces to keep.
