Sculptural Forming

Sculptural forming invite you to slow down, explore ideas, and build with intention.
In this focused two-day masterclass, you’ll explore sculptural handbuilding techniques to design and construct expressive ceramic forms, guided step-by-step in a small-group setting.

Working from sketches and small maquettes, you’ll develop your ideas before beginning construction at scale. Over two days, you’ll focus on form, balance, structure, and surface, with time to refine and finish your work thoughtfully.
This workshop is designed for experienced makers ready to push beyond functional forms and explore sculptural approaches to clay.
Please note this is not beginner friendly.

What You’ll Learn:
Concept development through sketching and maquettes
Planning structure, balance, and scale
Handbuilding techniques for sculptural construction
Joining, supporting, and strengthening complex forms
Refining surfaces and finishing sculptural work

2 days of hands-on instruction (5 hours per day)
Small group learning (max 8 participants)
All clay and firing included

Pieces to Keep:
Participants will design and build one sculptural ceramic form, developed from concept to finished piece.
